It seems like, thanks to the internet, more people than ever are taking the leap and starting their own small businesses. Unfortunately, this means that there is much more competition around than there ever was in the past, and if you want your business to come out on top, you will need to work harder, better and smarter than the competition in your niche.
Here are some things you can do to set your business apart from the completion and dominate your niche:
An easy way to beat the competition is by offering your customers more than they do. For example, if your business is concerned with selling ebooks, offer a free writing course to anyone who buys your books, or if you’re a web designer, throw in a little internet marketing too. Because you offer more, customers are likely to choose you over the competition, everything else being about equal.
Make Yours Better Quality
If the products and services you offer are of a better quality, then you will almost certainly beat the competition, even if your products and services are more expensive. This is something that particularly applies to the home safety and health niches. Obviously, hospitals aren’t going to buy products containing cheap components and put patients’ safety at risk when they could buy, for example, oxygen concentration flow meters with no moving parts that are much safer, and no one is going to buy a fire alarm that’s cheap and nasty when you can buy a better one for a few dollars more. It just doesn’t make sense. So, concentrate on quality, and you will have a distinct advantage.
Offer Excellent Service
Most people think that Amazon came to be so dominant only because it offered extremely low price on its goods, but I’m so sure it’s that simple. You see, one thing Amazon does really well is looking after its customers. If you ever have a problem, they sort it out quickly without any hassle, going above and beyond what you’d usually expect. I think that this has played at least a small part in their success and it is something you can also do if you want to set yourself apart from the competition. Issues will always arise, but it’s how you deal with them that determines the ultimate outcome.
Reward Loyal Customers
In this day and age, there’s very little reason for customers to remain loyal to a particular brand or company, especially when they can usually find similar things elsewhere, often at lower prices, so you need to really work for it if you want your company to be well thought of and therefore more deserving of loyalty.
One simple thing you could do is to reward customer loyalty, either by allowing customers to collect points. Sending out special articles/newsletters/offers to subscribers only or giving free gifts. What will work for your business is sure to vary, but do what you can to reward your customers and you will reap the benefits.
