Have you ever heard about Pokémon Go? If you don’t know what is this app about, let’s start from the beginning. Pokémon is the short name of “pocket monsters,” and is a really popular franchise coming from Japan. In Pokémon, monsters roam everywhere (forest, sea, deserts), and your job is to look for them, capture, and train them. Later you put them in battle against other monsters.
What is this Pokémon Go about? It’s an augmented reality mobile game that drives you to walk around your city or neighborhood catching monsters. It was worth two months ago in $200 million, and this only just one month after its release!
With the last report on August, we know that the number of active users worldwide is around 30,000,000 per day…
So, with this volume of people playing Pokémon Go, we are not talking just about just catching Pokémon in the city. It’s a app/game that businesses should be using for their marketing campaigns.
Now you must be thinking…how a business can get advantage of Pokémon Go?
Take a look at these 6 local business in Singapore who are exploring Pokémon Go to drive business.
1. The Singapore Zoo
In order to get the local community and tourists to come out and see the animals, the Singapore Zoo purchased +1,000 of lure modules. The lure module attracts Pokémon to an area for 30 minutes.
The Wildlife reserve in Singapore made an event out of it and promoted a contest where offer prices and even a 51% discount. They posted the event on Facebook and created even a hashtag.
2. ION Orchard
The shopping mall ION Orchard was one of the first to cash in on the game, they knew what there were doing. They started using “lures” almost immediately when Pokémon was released in Singapore.
However, even though the volume of people was much higher than other days, some businesses discovered that the Pokémon Go players were there mainly to catch them all and not to shop.
3. Resorts World Sentosa (RWS)
They planned to use the “lures” at various timings inside Universal Studios and the S.E.A. Aquarium, as well as outside the two attractions at popular Pokestops the Lake of Dreams, Festive Walk and Forum at Basement 1.
One amazing campaign is that those who can show screenshots of five Pokemon found anywhere on Resort World Sentosa within an hour can receive a 10% discount off admission ticket prices to Universal Studios Singapore and S.E.A. Aquarium.
4. Singtel shops
Singtel was releasing THOUSANDS of Lure Modules at PokéStops near Singtel Shop locations across the city.
Singtel promoters also were handing out survival kits with a disposable poncho, water bottle and a snack to the mobile customers during the duration of the campaign.
Also the Trainers who posted a photo of their Pokemon experience on the Singtel Shops in Facebook, Instagram or Twitter with the hashtags #Singtel and #PokemonGoSG were participating in a contest to win a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 each day.
5. CapitaLand Malls
CapitaLand announced on August that members of its loyalty program can earn points and redeem vouchers by posting screenshots of their Pokemons in any of its 16 shopping malls on Instagram.
Just using the hashtag #PokemonSTAR in the photo caption, tag the location CapitaLand property, and follow the CapitaLand Instagram account to qualify.
6. Lunch Click
LunchClick is a dating app made for serious daters and singles looking to find love. The company has added a new Pokémon Go category to its Propose-a-Date module, which lets people quickly arrange an offline date.
The new category lets users select from Pokemon hotspots around Singapore and propose a date with their match at one of the locations.
Businesses who are close to a Pokestop or Gym on Yelp should take advantage of the Yelp filter. Now you can look for businesses with a nearby PokéStop.
If you’re near a gym, take screenshots of Pokémon and post it in your social media channels. You can offer discounts for those who may want a break before, during or after their combats.
Using Lures also can help you to attract people to your place, but definitely doing a good campaign offering some promotions or doing something viral it’s the best. So buy those lures, post offers and special Pokémon events on social media channels. Be a business that is “catching” in Pokemon Go.
