What is better, create a video or write an article for your post? and I ask you, why do you have to choose?
Is it really still worth opening a blog or is it better to put your effort into empowering your Instagram account?
So following that same thread and thinking about the content we have to create for our readers, many people are debating whether it is better to create videos or write articles.
And my answer may not only surprise you but also ask you, why had not it happened to me before ?!
Well, things to keep in mind before deciding on one format or another.
WHERE IS YOUR PUBLIC OBJECTIVE?
If for example I want to create videos but the audience I want to reach is not on YouTube … it will be work in vain. So the first thing to ask is what social network they use the most, maybe it’s Instagram, maybe Youtube …
WITH WHAT FORMAT DO YOU FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE?
If you do not feel comfortable in front of a camera, however much the format works best, believe me you will make excuses at all times to not start.
If you follow me for a long time and especially in my beginnings with Snapchat, at that time I commented that recording was something that made me very embarrassed and that I did it to “force myself” and get used to it little by little.
In the same way, if writing is how you express yourself, do not doubt it.
DO YOU HAVE THE NECESSARY TOOLS AT YOUR PLACE?
This motive is decisive, the human being is procrastinator by nature, and as in the previous point, any excuse will be good to not start.
That if I do not have the right camera, if the background is not pretty, that if I do not know what lights to use … excuses, to record a video is enough with a camera phone and any editing program.
Believe me if this is really what you want to do, you will find a way to start already, if you delay it, it is that you really are not in your sauce.
HOW DOES YOUR PUBLIC LIKE TO CONSUME YOUR CONTENT?
As much as I like to write articles for the blog if you prefer the video format, probably our future in common is not very long-lived.
And how do you know what format your target audience prefers? Asking, as simple as that.
And well, these that I have listed you would be the points that you must take into account before decidirte by a format or another.
As you see, they are more important than knowing which one works best.
But … there is something else, something that I have not told you.
In several surveys I have done over the years, I asked what format you liked the most: posts, video, podcast … and the vast majority answered posts.
So maybe now you’re wondering … let’s see, you told us it was important to know first what format our target audience preferred.
Why not reach a new audience?
Why not satisfy those who like to read a blog article and those who prefer video?
And why not do it simultaneously?
And also, and important, helping me in the positioning in Google.
I explain my reasoning.
YouTube has a major problem that is the scope, the videos are left on its platform and sharing outside and inside it is not easy.
For example, when you upload a video on Facebook, anyone can share it on Facebook and in that way reach more people.
This on YouTube is unfeasible, at least for now.
So although this was a huge inconvenience for me, I thought that optimizing the YouTube videos well could reach a new audience that did not know me.
But what happened to those who do know me, or not, but prefer blog articles?
In this way, you can choose if you watch the video or read it.
And not only that, as Google still has no “eyes” and can not see what is inside the video, I help with the whole transcript that is in the blog article, so you can read it (track it) and position it so that others people find it.
Is this much more work?
Yes, I’m not going to deny it, it’s double work, but I know that in this way I’m amortizing the work I’m already doing when it comes to thinking and planning the content I publish.
So whether you opt for one option or another, I sincerely hope today’s video has helped you.
I hope you share with me in the comments section what was your choice.
