Every business owner has some sort of marketing strategy, whether it was created in house or by specialist marketing experts. Either way, chances are it involved a significant investment of both time and money. So how exactly do you work out if your marketing strategy is the right one for you and your company? Here are some ways to work it out…
Monitor Your Sales
First of all, and most simply, has your business become more successful since you put your marketing strategy into place? If you’ve made more sales or had more interest, chances are that your strategy is doing exactly what you want it to. If you’re getting more and more hits on your site but you aren’t actually doing better, it could be time to stop and reconsider what exactly you’re doing. Are you saying the right thing? Are you attracting the right people? Consider how you can get in touch with different demographics.
Keep Talking To People
It’s important to ask questions about what exactly is and isn’t working for people. If your site is difficult to use or is full of bugs then you need to hear about it because otherwise people will be silently put off and you’ll be confused as to why you aren’t doing better. Criticism can be hard to hear but there’s nothing better than constructive criticism as it will help you do better and help your company to be the absolute best that it can be. Asking for feedback is one of the most important things you can do – ask everyone you can for their honest opinions.
Use Google Analytics
Of all the platforms to use, the Google Analytics dashboard is one of the most useful when you’re looking at the results of your website. Initially, it might be a little confusing to use, but make sure that you give yourself plenty of time to play around on it and you’ll find out that you can discover pretty much everything about the way that people are engaging with your site, whether that’s clicking on a link and closing it again quickly (in which case you might need some better content) or clicking through to the main page of your site, in which case you’ve done a good job with the links that you’re providing. Work out what links and search texts are helping people find your site and start to use search engine optimisation so that your site is at the top of search engine results when people look for certain terms.
How Do You Feel?
Finally, let’s not forget that gut feeling plays a bigger part in business than many people would like to admit. If your marketing strategy simply doesn’t feel right, then chances are you’ve been going along with something that just isn’t the best decision for you and your company. You need to work out what exactly suits you and what you want to do and the direction that you want to move in for the future.
