There are many people who wonder if it is possible to part time work from home, what’s more, the real question is whether you can really make money from home.
In the same way, as is my case, we are many who have opted for this new (or perhaps not so new) methodology of working at home, especially thanks to the Internet.
And in a sector such as digital marketing and / or social media, that its natural environment is online, this labor side is still much easier to perform.
Well, although like all professional activity, it is never free of risks and potential obstacles that make it difficult for us to succeed.
That is why, you will surely be wondering something that I also raised in its day:
What are the risks and benefits of working from home for a digital marketing professional?
When talking about developing your work at home, we also refer to an environment that is plagued by potential distractions and temptations that can radically lower our productivity …

Advantages, disadvantages and tips for Part Time Work From Home online in Online Marketing is a good option
The current situation of the labor panorama is not very hopeful. The unemployment figures rise or, if they fall, they force you to live chained to a garbage contract.
However, as negative as it may seem, this situation has a very, very positive aspect, and is that it has taught the world to make a living and start earning money from home.
No longer have to be tied to a contract, linked to a timetable from 9:00 to 17:00 or enduring that boss you can not stand or that partner who asks you for favors every 5 minutes. That ended!
Today you can have your own job sitting in the chair on your desk, in bed with your laptop, on the beach you have 5 minutes and you can even work from a different country.
In short, we are facing the era of part time work from home, where telework is no longer unusual and freelancers start to excel over many companies.
And if this is so, you will wonder why I can not do it?
Because it is not easy, it is not achieved in 2 days and because it has absolutely nothing to do with paid work.
But that does not mean it’s impossible. Everything good has a price, right?
Would you like to know how I did it?
Do you want to know how you can part time work from home online and generate your own salary without moving from your room or office?
Then you’d better keep reading.
What does Part Time Work From Home consist of?
Before starting up, I would like to define what this is about telecommuting, working from home, working at home or working online.
Let’s see what Wikipedia says about Part Time Work From Home:
“Telework consists of work done by a person for another individual or company from a place away from it through some telecommunication system”
To summarize ⇒ Part time work from home is to make your profession from your home for companies or clients that (obviously) do not share a space with you.
It is true that the definition can be a bit misleading, since you can build a business in your home and work from it by getting your customers there.
Even so, in the world of “online marketing” the most common is to do as the definition says.
I would also like to clarify something else: for me to part time work from home is not to fill in surveys, to advertise for a few cents or to do some kind of action of this type.
That will almost never give you stability or enough income to consider it a job.
Why part time work from home is a good option?
I am a strong advocate of self-employment, a year ago I chose it above paid work and I will never regret it.
In fact, daily cause many friends and acquaintances to throw themselves at once into this world.
And why do I encourage and encourage so many people to work from home online?
For several reasons that I will tell you right now:
1) Working from home means enjoying
As I said at the outset, I think very few paid workers are really satisfied with their work.
Your salary, your schedule, your colleagues, your bosses or just working on something they do not like conditions day after day.
Why not change the situation?
Why not turn that plan B from self-employment into plan A and launch yourself for it?
What sense does it have to remain tied to a life in which you are not happy?
That is the first reason why I always recommend working from home: you do what you want, how you want and when you want.
You have the freedom to choose your profession, your methods and your clients.
This freedom is transformed into happiness.
You will no longer go to work, because in fact you will work from your home office, but you will go to do what you want.
And that is worth more than money, really.
2) You will spend less
If you work in a company, chances are you have to move to it day after day.
You’ll spend it on gas, on the subway, or on any other means of transportation to get there.
In addition, the schedule is usually split morning and afternoon, so on many occasions you have to eat there.
And not every day you want to take the food in a tupper, right?
All these are expenses and more expenses than if you part time work from home you can eliminate.
3) Part time work from home saves time and increases productivity
Sitting in front of a PC 8 hours in a job does not make you more productive.
And losing 2 hours between going to and returning from work does not help much to enjoy the free time that leaves you working day.
If you part time work from home you eliminate these difficulties and not only do not have to go anywhere to work, as with turning on the PC you will be “connected” to your customers, but also you can increase your productivity if you know how.
At work you can not be getting up, going to lunch or even taking breaks every hour.
It is something that is frowned upon in most companies, however, at home you can do it and even divide your workday in the schedules where you work best.
What are you productive working from 5 to 12 in the morning? Well, work at that time.
What tomorrow you have an event and you need to modify your schedule? You can do it.
The advantage of working from home is that you can shape your schedule and your work habits as you want.
This will increase your productivity, add hours to the clock and give you time to do many more things.
4) It gives you more time to enjoy with your family
The quality of life depends, in many occasions, on the amount of time that you can enjoy with your own.
If your schedule, the routes to work and other you subtract almost all hours of the day, why you live?
Especially if you have children, the quality of life increases tremendously when working from home.
In your breaks you can play with your little one or, if your partner is at home, talk for a while with her.
For example, I love to play with my dog (yes, it’s part of my family), so in my breaks I usually spend time with him and even give him some short walk in long breaks.
This relaxes me, makes me disconnect and helps me to be more productive.
They are small moments and, although you are in your working hours, they help you feel much better at the end of the day.
5) It allows you to part time work from home online (if you want) in pajamas
Okay, I admit that this benefit is very rare and particular, but it’s just an example.
Working from home, especially in the world of digital marketing, allows you to get out of bed, have breakfast and sit without even changing.
Although they do not recommend doing it, since many experts say that it harms the productivity, it is something priceless (at least for me).
This is just a simple detail that marks the freedom you can have to do what you want if you work online.
And freedom is something we all want as workers.
13 Tips for Winning and Making Money from Home
Okay, I’ve already convinced you that working from home on the internet mola … a lot.
But of course, it is not so easy.
In fact, if you work on your own from home, everything is much more difficult than if you do it with a “comfortable” paid job.
When I say “comfortable” I mean that, on many occasions, the risks and responsibilities that you have in your position are much smaller than those you have as your own boss.
Working from home everything depends on you.
I have been working for some time (and earning my own salary) from home and it has cost me something.
You have to learn to live with yourself and, although we have seen many positive things before, being your own boss is more difficult than it seems from the outside.
To help you start and guide you a little, I will give you 10 tips that I would have liked to know when I first sat down to work online.
They are the best? The worst? I do not know, but they are the ones I give to anyone who wants to start their own business venture at home.
1º Create your own working hours
Okay, I know I said that working from home gives you the freedom to work whenever you want, but that does not mean that every day you must work at different hours without any sense.
Create a work schedule and try to fulfill it.
For example, I have always enjoyed working at night, but I discovered that it was much more productive in the early hours of the morning.
For this reason, today I wake up at 6:30 in the morning and, after training or doing sports, I get to work very early.
Do I meet the schedule every day? No. But the vast majority.
Without a schedule you will end up working out of time, distract yourself, leave things undone and waste a lot of time.
You can skip it someday, but try to do as much as you can and you will get better results.
2º Eliminate distractions
Working at home may mean exponentially increasing the number of distractions.
You do not have your partner or your boss giving you the rod, but you can have “too much” freedom.
For example, if you live at home with your family you have to make them understand that, even if you are at home, you are working.
Otherwise everyone will distract you and they will enter your little office when it seems appropriate.
There are also many other distractions on the Internet and above all, if you work in the world of online marketing: Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube, a blog, a news portal, … Everything distracts!
When you work, close everything and focus.
And teach everyone who lives with you to understand that if the door of your room or office is closed is that you are working.
The sooner you understand it the longer you’ll save yourself.
In the same way, for those who work in digital marketing, this online world also envelops you and can get absorbed in superfluous tasks or minor activities.
And without forgetting the classic gossip in some social networks that are not relevant.
For this reason, another way to be more productive can also be to set a few guidelines and hours a day to consult your profiles in social networks.
3º Take care of your productivity
I started being a complete disaster in terms of schedules and productivity.
Seriously, it was criminal how badly I managed my schedules and how unproductive I was.
Until one day I said “this is over” and I focused on improving my productivity.
The result? I work less and I do much more. But much, much more. And even work better.
In my blog I invited 9 bloggers working from home to talk about productivity techniques and how to get better in this aspect.
If you are interested in doing more in less hours, read it
4º Use tools and delegate tasks to other professionals
Time is worth money, and when you part time work from home, it’s worth even more.
In a job you charge the same thing you do 100 things in 8 hours or you do 2 in those 8 hours.
Working from home, every hour counts, every minute can be a plus or a minus.
And unfortunately, the number of tasks increases greatly with respect to paid work.
For example, if you are self-employed and part time work from home you have to carry your own accounts.
What does it benefit you for? Nothing is a waste of time, so I recommend you delegate it to a company, a manager or someone you trust and pay for it.
Think about it, if you pay € 50 a month for your advice and you save 5 hours a month, you are making money.
With that you charge 11 € / hour (I do not recommend charging per hours) or it will take less than 1 hour to generate 11 € of profit you would be earning.
When you part time work from home, time is the most valuable resource.
Learn how to delegate and use payment tools to reduce what it takes to do some tasks and even to take others out of the way.
5º Make yourself visible (really)
If you want to work in the world of online marketing you have to be visible and with visible I do not mean to have profile on Twitter, Google+ and an account in Instagram, much less.
I mean, above all, to have a blog where you show what you know how to do, for me a blog is the epicenter of the success of an Internet marketing professional.
It is better to have a blog in conditions, than to be all day publishing and sharing things in social networks.
A good post can give you a thousand times more reach than 50 or 60 tweets.
And it will not only give you scope, it will give you authority and serve you to strengthen your personal brand.
In a world where, as I said before, there is saturation in all markets, the personal brand is the solution to differentiate you.
You do not even need to have a blog with over 50,000 hits per month.
I know dozens of professionals who have blogs with a small community, 4,000-5,000 visits a month and live on that blog.
My blog has an average of less than 10,000 visits per month.
However, I managed to get a salary thanks to him and I get new proposals of work day after day.
Do not obsess about generating thousands and thousands of visits, obsession with generating quality visits to convert the maximum number of visitors to potential customers of your services, infoproductos or affiliate products.
6º Do not become a statue
Part time work from home has a small great danger to health: the sedentary lifestyle.
When you get used to working from home it can be time to spend the day sitting in front of the PC. Try to avoid it at all costs.
I am a fairly delicate person with injuries and I have several.
In fact, I have come to doubt for years that the sport is healthy, for that reason, hours and hours in front of the PC are not the best thing for my body.
When I started working from home I spent up to 12 hours sitting here.
The result? Back pain, tired sight, headaches and a nice weight gain.
The solution? Easy: do sport.
I recommend you get up very, very early and make it the first thing you do in the day. For me is the best time, it takes away from making excuses like “today I do not give me time” and prioritize the important thing: your health.
And when you are on the PC, take breaks, get up, stretch your back, stretch your arms and do not leave your neck rigid like a rock.
I use Focus Booster to remind me that, every 25 minutes, I have to stop and move.
It does not matter that you do a flex, that you go down to play with your dog or that you get up and walk for a while.
What matters is to get up, activate the organism and say “hey, do not fall asleep with such a chair”.
In addition, from time to time give yourself the pleasure of giving you a massage.
I have, within my personal budget, a part dedicated to health care through both training and physical therapy. And I do not regret the expense.
7º Learn to say no
The “no” is the most difficult word to say and at the same time the most useful for anyone who wants to work online and earn money from home.
If you do not learn to use it in time, see saying goodbye to have a life.
At first, when you start your walks in the world of online marketing, it is normal to say yes to everything.
Collect just enough to “get experience”. It is normal, almost all we have done.
Of course, there comes a time when you have to stop, rethink everything and start saying no.
For example, I started working as a personal branding advisor, but I finally saw that my market was in the world of copywriting.
What did I do? I discarded all future jobs as an advisor, delegated them and focused almost exclusively on the creation of texts and content.
I do not regret it and, despite having let some customers go, I generate more than if I were diversified.
Stop doing favors to everyone, give a bonus for your work, but do not end up giving 100 times more than what they ask because the customer tells you that they are “5 minutes.”
Charge more if you have less availability.
The growth in online marketing is like this, if you do not learn to control it, you can die of success.
I know people who do not care about their work and who, because of not using the no, earn half the money they could earn and working twice as long.
8º Collaborate with other professionals
The world of online marketing is one of the most collaborative that exists.
In other works, competition comes to hatred and throws away the junk, but here many help themselves even as part of that competition.
Working from home does not mean not getting together or meeting new people.
Connect, comment blogs, exchange tweets, do interviews and call other professionals who do the same as you and share opinions with them.
Working from home in this world can be lonely if you do not relate.
Normally no one understands what you do in your near circle and you will lack people with whom to talk about topics such as SEO, content marketing or copywriting.
To me, sometimes I have spent hours talking to people in this world, either through Hangout, mobile, Facebook chat or Twitter private messages.
9th Be careful with the email
This point could enter the one of productivity, but I prefer to separate it.
Email can be your biggest enemy and can turn a normal working day into a complete disaster.
Set schedules to open the email, learn to know what are the good times to answer and which are not.
Avoid mileage emails, use your mobile more and try to reduce the time in front of the damn Gmail.
Not only do you have to educate yourself with the email, but the rest of the people who work around you.
Especially explain that you do not look at the email every 5 minutes and that if they have an urgency they have to call you on the phone.
If a time comes when the email overflows, think of finding someone to help you solve the problem.
You will not be the first or the last that hired a secretary to take the mail.
10º How and where to look for courses to keep you in continuous formation
If there is something that defines marketing is continuous innovation. What today worked and was popular, tomorrow can be old fashioned and be an archaic technique.
Online marketing is not theoretical, it is not something tight or that stays always the same in time, evolves day by day and if you are not in that day to day you can stay behind with a lot of ease.
For this reason it is very important to train continuously.
Believe it or not everyone who lives in marketing we do, we read eBooks, we are targeted to courses and we download free content from other bloggers daily.
If you do not upgrade your services will start to be outdated, your content will be of no use and you will not be able to bring true value to the marketing blogosphere.
The good news is that there are dozens of platforms for taking courses and training from home that are free.
The most popular and that I have tried first hand are the following:
Apart from these courses, there are other payment methods very popular in the Hispanic world such as Quondos, Wontalia or TeamPlatino among others.
They are payable and require a monthly fee, but the benefit in exchange for that payment is so great that it is worth doing.
11º How and where to look for customers on the Internet?
When you start your freelance career part time work from home it may seem difficult to get clients.
If no one knows you, you do not have a community around and you are missing contacts, it is normal for customers not to knock on your door.
But we have all started there and we are not exactly few who now have many clients, so getting them is not even impossible.
For example, to start you can look for work in one of the portals for freelancers that exist today.
There is more and more and the supply of labor in them is increasing little by little.
The portals that I recommend are the following:
In these portals there is work for editors, programmers, designers, WordPress specialists and virtually anything you can imagine, especially in Fiverr and Geniuzz.
They can be good places to start earning the trust of the discerning Internet public.
In addition to signing up in these portals I would recommend you start establishing relationships with established professionals.
Most recognized bloggers or marketers are always looking for qualified people to delegate to and that person can be you.
My first clients for my copywriting services came through this route.
I received proposals to write articles from recommendations of other professionals and I worked for them helping them with their day to day in the creation of content.
Finally there is another way to find small jobs: the forums.
Look for a forum of your subject and take an active part in it, offer your services in a post and you will see how the customers begin to arrive.
Do not be discouraged and keep in mind that at the beginning customers will arrive with droppers, however, as you go having satisfied customers will come more and more recommendations.
And with those recommendations customers will start knocking on your door more often.
12º Tools to organize and plan your daily part time work from home
The tools are a great ally of the marketing professional who part time work from home.
Why? Because they save time, improve productivity, automate tasks and even get us to charge more for our work.
The problem is that there are hundreds of tools and it can be difficult to know which ones to choose.
My advice is that if you try one and you like it, stay with it.
There may be better or worse alternatives, but if you try them all you will lose enough time.
If you like one, stick with it.
And what are the tools I use in my daily life working from home?
The ones I use the most are the following:
► Trello: without Trello I would go “blind” for my life.
For me is the basis of all my productivity, since in this tool I order my day to day, my relationship with customers, pending tasks and a thousand other things.
Try it and I promise you that you will be in love, although its competitor (Basecamp) is also very, very good.
► Skype: If you part time work from home you will have to organize meetings with clients, collaborators and other colleagues in the sector.
Skype is the easiest way to do it, since it’s free and works great.
► Google Analytics: I can not conceive of creating a blog and not adding Google Analytics.
You must know what happens in your “base camp”, what are the best content, what interests you and what is not and hundreds of other things you can know with Google Analytics.
► Hootsuite: being all day in social networks putting everything at hand can be a real ordeal.
With Hootsuite that is over, since you can schedule the updates and see how your reach and base of fans increases in a “semi-automatic” way.
► Feedly: perfect application to keep abreast of all the news portals and blogs that you like best.
Add them all to this RSS reader and do not bother to be entering again and again in each site to see if it has been updated.
► Evernote: a great all-in-one for productivity.
Post ideas, file entries and news you want to read later, write snippets of content for your future post while you’re on the Metro or you’re strolling and doing just about anything with Evernote. 100% recommendable.
► Spotify: my method of isolating myself from the world when I work is to listen to music.
For that I use Spotify and, although it seems like a tool that does not fit anything here, it is very useful to maintain concentration and not end up lost in the happy multitasking.
► Mailchimp: Creating a list of subscribers from the outset will help you generate more customers through your blog.
For this you need an email marketing program and the most popular and simple of all is Mailchimp.
You can also try Mailrelay, which works similarly and has a larger free version.
These are my favorite tools, now I would like to know what are yours.
13º Take vacations and rest
The world of online marketing is absorbing and working from home is even more so.
You can enter a spiral where, when you realize, a year has passed and you have not taken a break.
Avoid that and take your own breaks.
The good thing about being self-employed and working online is that you can organize work as you see fit. Seize it.
For example, I decided that I was only going to work Monday through Thursday. I use the long weekends (Friday to Sunday) to get away, disconnect and have my own vacation.
Also, the great thing about working from home is that you can go to Bali island on vacation 2 weeks and work some morning with no problem.
I could do my work in Singapore, which is where I live, in Madrid, in Beijing, in Ireland or in Boston.
Of course, even if it’s normal to work and answer some emails sometime tomorrow if you go away for a long time on vacation, disconnect.
Remember that you will enjoy, not to continue working.
I’ve already said enough about part time work from home, right?
Of course, I wish I had known all these things before sitting down to the PC for the first time to work.
It is not an idyllic world and after self-employment there is a darker side to know.
Anyone is not made to part time work from home and less in a sector as competitive as online marketing, where new professionals (and a lot of smoke) come out every day.
Yes, it is a beautiful world and it can make you feel totally self-realized.
In addition, I believe that part time work from home is the future of employment.
The distances are very short thanks to the Internet and it does not make sense to lengthen them with trips by car, routes and others.
If you would like to start working online and need any additional advice or help, comment and I will be happy to help.
That as I said in the post, in this world you have to be very well accompanied.
